Hippopotamus pod search for water in drying waterholeSept. 19, 2016

In times of drought, local people take their livestock to open areas rich with greens and fresh water, leading to less and less resources for wildlife and heightened conflict between species.

Over time, losses of wildlife leads to ecological imbalances and economic losses, which could have a devastating effect on both humans and wild species living in and around the Lamu region. However, to counteract this issue, we are working hard to manage local communities living near the boundaries of Amu Ranch through community programs and rotation grazing.
