Lamu's Cultural Festival - best yet!Nov. 14, 2016
Each year, Lamu Conservation Trust (LCT) hosts a pop-up stand to welcome visitors and share news about our projects aimed to preserve local wildlife and their habitats.
This year marked the 16th edition of the Lamu Cultural Festival which ran from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th November. Not only did it provide LCT with a fantastic opportunity to reach out to a wider audience, but it also raised much needed funds for the area, with boat operators and fishermen in the Lamu archipelago ringing up huge profits.
Swahili poetry, traditional dances, Henna paintings, dhow races and swimming competitions attracted the interest of many at the festival. These traditional activities help promote the unique Swahili culture of the Lamu people and we were delighted to be a part of it.
